December 13th: “Mary’s Boy Child / Oh My Lord” Daddy Cool Kids

Producer Frank Farian assembled a children’s group, featuring his 10-year-old  daughter Yanina, and named them Daddy Cool Kids. Farian presented them on German television in December 2007 where they performed their version of Boney M.’s 1978 chart-topping “Mary’s Boy Child/Oh My Lord”, included as a bonus track on the compilation album Christmas With Boney M..

In June 2008, their debut single “School’s Out” was released. Having nothing but the title in common with the Alice Cooper hit, the song combined elements from Boney M.’s “Gotta Go Home”, “Daddy Cool”, “Happy Song” (which featured a B-side also entitled “School’s Out”), Eruption’s “One Way Ticket”, and La Bouche’s “Be My Lover”. It became a minor hit, charting at N97 in Switzerland, N57 in Germany and N26 in Austria. The album release which was scheduled to follow in August ’08 was cancelled due to Farian’s divorce from Yanine’s mother, Henrietta “Chinya” Onyewenjo (sister of Patty Onyewenjo who was a shortlived member of Boney M. in 1990).

Finally, just before Christmas ’09, the School’s Out album was postreleased after 16 months delay although neither the group’s official web site nor their official Myspace site has been updated.
