December 1st: “White Christmas” Bing Crosby

In my little countdown to Christmas sharing some of my favourite Christmas songs, I start With “White Christmas” sung by Bing Crosby in the musikal Movie “White Christmas” from 1954. Many People don’t think it’s Christmas before they’ve heard this song.

This famous song was witten by Irwing Berlin in 1941. Berlin was born in Russia by the name Israel Baline, but spent his youth in New York City. He wrote the song originally for the Movie “Holiday Inn”. The song was first sung on December 25th 1941 by Bing Crosby on the radio. This was only Three weeks after the USA had entered World War II.

Berlin wrote the song in Los Angeles where it never snowed. He imagined his favourite Christmas With snow and glistening treetops, picturing excited children waiting for Santa Claus.
